SCION PRESENTED THE SOULFRITO THE URBAN LATIN MUSIC FESTIVAL AT BAYFRONT PARK, MIAMI

The D.E.Y, Kat Deluna, Notch and Joell Ortiz give memorable performances at the Fifth Annual Urban Latin Music Festival hosted by Angie Martinez and Fatman Scoop

SCION Presents SOULFRITO The Urban Latin Music Festival, the first festival of its kind in the U. S. to celebrate Urban Latin music, culture and the arts, once again stunned audiences with its eclectic line-up for the fifth annual event that took place on Sunday, November 18, at Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Miami. For the first time ever, this year’s Festival offered free general admission to the thousands of music enthusiasts of all ages whom attended.

SCION Presents Soulfrito The Urban Latin Music Festival was hosted for a second time by the popular duo Fatman Scoop and Latina broadcast icon Angie Martinez. Headlining act The D.E.Y., Epic records’ newest signing and today’s most talked about Latin hip-hop fusion band, made an outstanding festival debut in front of an excited audience following their individual inaugural performances at Soulfrito in 2003. Notch, an all-time favorite in Miami, performed an award-winning array of soulful classics, after which the audience screamed for more, forcing the Jamaican artist to continue with an amazing encore. Aftermath label artist Joell Ortiz gave an outstanding display of “old skool” hip hop to the older, loyal fans of Soulfrito, after which Fatman Scoop showed his fellow rapper immense respect on stage.

Popular Merengue group Fulanito took to the stage in front of a live audience with supporting music performances by DJ Camilo, L-Smooth, The Brass King, DJ Africa and renowned spoken word artist La Bruja. The highlight of the festival was the amazing performance by chart-topping artist Kat Deluna, who performed her number one hit “Whine Up,” in addition to other popular tracks. The Dominican-born 19 year-old, trained as an opera singer, broke a serious sweat on stage with her accompanying dancers. “It’s my first time here at Soulfrito, and I’m so proud to be performing among such legends,” she said backstage before her festival finale. “When I first heard about Soulfrito, it made me hungry, but the diversity of acts are so real and a true representation of Urban Latin music today.”

“This year’s festival featured one of our most diverse lineups,” said 24 year-old Soulfrito founder Melissa Giles. “With this year’s event being free general admission for everyone and with today’s leading Urban Latin acts performing live on stage, the event proved to be a great day of entertainment,” added Giles. “We would like to thank each of our sponsors for their support. We are proud to be able to continue to showcase Miami’s new and emerging talent under our SOULFRITO Arts Foundation umbrella.”
