UPDATE: Gorki is released by Cuban police and court

Gorki Aguila, the lead singer of Porno para Ricardo, was released and fined $600 Cuban pesos. Due to international scrutiny, the state's decided no prosecution service and dropped the charges and imposed a fine for playing too loudly.
"Gorki is a free musician who expresses his art," said Porno para Ricardo's guitarist Ciro Javier Diaz Penedo after the trial. Thank God!

FREE GORKI!!: Jailed Cuban punk rocker to stand trial Friday

An outspoken critic of Fidel Castro and the communist government, punk rocker Gorki Aguil was jailed and is to stand trial tomorrow, Friday for "social dangerousness," which can put him behind bars for 4 years.
Gorki, 39, is the lead singer of the Cuban band Porno para Ricardo. The band is banned from official Cuban airwaves and just finished their latest album, which is being uploaded on the internet.

Ciro Diaz, guitarist for the band and plans on attending the trial, says"these kinds of trials are very biased. It's difficult for someone to be absolved...A lawyer can do very little because there's no evidence of criminal activity presented, only what the police say ".

THIS JUST IN: Francisco Oliveira found NOT GUILTY in Estefano case

A Miami jury found Francisco Oliveira NOT GUILTY in famed songwriter Estefano's case. The judgment came in at 5:27 PM, on August 27, 2008.
Francisco Oliveira, a handyman, was being held in Miami for allegedly shooting popular Latino music songwriter Fabio Alonso Salgado, known as Estefano.

UPDATE: ''This jury gives us great faith in the system,'' said Oliveira's defense attorney, Frank Rubio. ``They came to the right conclusion -- all [prosecutors] had was an uncorroborated, post-traumatic recollection of the victim. They had no DNA. No gun. No confession. No gunshot residue.''
As for Estefano his rep said: ''It would be an enormous understatement to say that Estefano is disappointed by the verdict,'' Thornton said. ``But he is grateful to be alive and believes this matter will ultimately be judged by a higher authority.''
